Just a quick comment: I'd love to see discussion continue here, as I think
it's good for providing another alternative, another type of game that we
can readily play.

As to spells in D&D, typically a first level wizard can cast first level
spells, a third level wizard can cast second level spells, a fifth level
wizard can cast third level spells, and so on. Other magic-using classes
may earn new levels of spells more slowly, and that will be shown in the
chart that presents the abilities that class gains at each level.

As to adventures, it really depends on the kind of GM you have, and the
kinds of adventures your players want. Like most role-playing games, a game
can range from a dungeon crawl (go into the caverns outside of town and kill
the dragon, you get to keep all his treasure) to political intrigue (someone
is trying to assassinate the king, find the traitor in his royal retinue,
and protect him from attacks from all sources, to exploration (we've found
this island that no one ever knew about before, find out what's there and
whether we could settle people there) to anything your imagination can
create. There are lots of pre-made adventures published on the net, and you
can probably find lots of them for purchase at www.rpgnow.comm. They'll be
in PDF format, and generally very readable by JAWS, and presumably by
WindowEyes as well.
