Reguardless though. Nintendo would still own the rights to the games even if they were 5 or 25 years old. It's an interesting project, but not one I have too much interest in. I do like double dragon style game. I never got to fully apreciate it as a kid.

As best as I understand copyright laws if you use the effects for non-commercial use then one is allowed to use them. It becomes a big issue when it is used for commercial games. As for Mario I seam to recall Nintendo Game Cube has a Super Mario game.
