I think the long and sad years of experience have learned me several important rules to follow: 1. No bad news and developers stepping down can surprise me any more. 2. Things like this often tend to seem as fakes and it is best to wait for some reliable confirmation that the time gives. 3. It brings no good to discuss such events in public and especially in such a manner and on such a list. 4. Whatever might happen, the developers' final decisions don't surprise me. If I were in their shoes (in fact I am and I slowly approach something worthy), I couldn'T probably stand that much. 5. Seldom, but still sometimes, the circumstances that forced the developer to behave in the unpleasant way (For the community) change again so that it is possible to go on (not that this case, if trustworthy, seems to be the event :-). So just wait and see.
