Hello Richard. I think while it pertains to game play it is on topic as
long as we all do not get into a long-winded discussion of which is the
best sound card, headphones, or how to install/use either of them.
In short, yes I've had my speaker-out jack go out on me and it is very
annoying. Once it even happened to the onboard sound card of the mother
board which was kind of annoying. The thing is and I'm not sure if I
missunderstood you. You said that if you use the headphones then you
only hear one side, but if you do not then you can hear sound from both
speakers right? I'm wondering if your speakers use a different speaker
out jack? Or do you plug your headphones to a headphone jack on the
speakers themselves. If you plug your headphones to a jack on the
speakers themselves and never touch the connection to the actual
computer then it most likely is the jack on the speakers which is going
bad. In which case you can use a headphone splitter on your pc and
connect your regular speakers to one and your headphones to the other
and just use which ever. When doing this you would have to turn off your
speakers while using headphones or at least turn them down.
If you can provide more information I can try to help. We need to get
your speakers working so you can play games effectively.

admission to someone else.
