hello everyone, this is extremely important so please read the whole of my
message below.

as mentioned a week or two back, myself, raul and tom have decided to move
the whole of this list away from yahoogroups. the reasons for this most of
you will probably be able to relate too! smile. yahoogroups seems to be
getting more unpredictable, not too mention slow. there's also problems with
certain ISP's and members being bounced for no apparent reason, so it's time
to wave goodbye to yahoogroups.

ok so where are we going? we decided to take the list to a new domain of
it's own. we took the audyssey.org domain name which was still available and
we are going to develop a website from there. more on the actual website
later, we are primarily concerned here with the list move for the moment.
the new discussion list will be based on audyssey.org using mailman, which
some of you will be familiar with. it's dead simple to use and is lightening
quick compared with yahoo. the current list will close for posting, but the
list archives will remain for the time being as they are an invaluable
source of information.unfortunately, there is no way of taking the archives
with us to the new website.

this move will take place on friday of this week. this will be roughly
around: noon Mountain time which is 2 pm
Eastern, 1 pm Central, and 11 am Pacific. That is 7 pm Universal (including
the UK). the current yahoo list will be closed down so far as posting goes a
couple of hours before that time. we request noone posts anything to the
current list from about 3 hours before the times listed above.

and now for another important request relating to the new list. please!
please! please! do not post test messages to the new list. we have a
membership of over 300 and we do not want the list overwhelmed with
pointless test messages!! if you get messages from the new list, you can
assume you've been successfully transfered over and you *do not* need to
test it! the first message that will be posted will be the new list
guidelines, so if you get those, then your subscribed. if you want to make
sure, then post on a current topic or start a new one yourself. i say again,
*do not* post test messages to the new list! i'm wording this as a request,
but of course the list moderators are free to handle those who do post test
messages after what i've said, in their own way.

again, to save a deluge of messages to the current list about aspects of
changing subscriptions, going no mail etc, please read below. it's a quick
run down of basic commands raul sent me. these instructions, probably in
more depth will also be attached to the list guidelines each month. also,
and i've not actually checked thuroughly, but i'd think such information is
pretty well covered on the list home page.

Questions regarding list management. Yes list members can convert to
digest, go nomail, etc. The probess is different than yahoogroups but
here is the way. Short and quick answer is to go to the list web page,
log in with their email address and password assigned to them by the
Mailman software and make such changes. Kevin, as you've seen, the web
site for this is very easy and speedy. Second way is via email. For
example if my mailing list password was doggies what I would do is send
an email to
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
and put what ever in the
subject, I usually put a period or two. In the body of the message put
the following three lines.

authenticate doggies
set delivery off
end

The authenticate doggies password is to use your list password to allow
you to make changes to your list settings. the set delivery off command
tells Mailman to set the delivery mode to off. Lastly, the end command
tells the mailman to not process anything after that line in case for
example that you have a signature.

Lastly, the way to unsubscribe can be done via web interface or via
email like this: Send email to
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
again put whatever in subject line and send the message. You will get a
confirmation asking you to confirm you really want to leave.

To subscribe via email you send email to
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

You can leave the subject what ever and the body blank. If you do this
the Mailman will send you back a confirm message so you can confirm you
really want to do this. Mailman will also assign you a random list
password which you can get reminded of when ever or at the first of each
month. If you however want to choose your own password then instead of
emailing the -subscribe address I mentioned do the following: Send email
to
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
and in the body or subject line put the
line:

subscribe test123

Subscribe tells Mailman to subscribe you, test123 in this case would be
the password you choose.

As you can tell, Mailman is very flexible.

lastly for the moment, the all important addresses. to send a message to the
list once it's up and running, send to:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

to visit the list's new home page, go to:
http://audyssey.org/mailman/listinfo/gamers_audyssey.org

if anyone has further questions, feel free to ask, and i'm sure raul and tom
will fill in any gaps i've left! smile. we'll try and make the move as
painless as possible and hopefully the list's new home will make everyone's
life a little easier than it has been recently on yahoogroups.

happy gaming!!
