Dan,

I built a wooden deck on the side of my above ground pool 6 years ago.  I used 
the weed control netting that you can pick up at any Home Depot or Lowe's.  You 
need to get rid of all vegitation prior to laying the netting down.  It works 
best on bare ground.and overlap the netting by1 or 2 inches.  Also get the 
metal spikes to hold it in place.
