Lubricant engineers have been working on viscosity for a hundred years and more. I suggest it is best to listen carefully to what they say.
Since most of the soft bearing material in a car engine is nonferrous, a magnet is not going to indicate bearing wear. The magnetic particles that could really show up are the camshaft lobes, valve stems, rocker arms, cylinder wall material, ring material, and lifters. So it wouldn't hurt to have a magnet there to see if there are metal particles in your oil. Geoff ----- Original Message ----- From: Robert J. What do you know about a product called a filter mag? and what is your oppinion? For those that don't know, a filter mag is simply a high powered magnet that you put on the end of your oil filter and it is supposed to trap metal particls that circulate in your oil. Personally I can not see how there could be a problem with this but I have not yet used one.
