Tom, I know the NFB materials center has them. The basic unit is a 6-inch rod, 3/8 of an inch in diameter, with 16 threads to the inch. It is cut in such a way so that every half inch, a thread is raised so one can tell the half inches, easily. There is a kind of a flat nut with a notch on one side that one turns along the rod, with a locking nut to hold the flat nut in place if desired. So, one can measure to within 1/64th of an inch, pretty accurately. Three extensions come with it, in lengths of 6, 12 and 18 inches. You can order extra extensions, separately.
