Hi Dale, I'm not sure if that is the case with the code or not.
Like I said, I have seen it done with both the green housing and bare wire. As my father used to be an electrician, and I used to accompany him on numerous jobs, his preference was to go with the bare housing, although he never specifically mentioned why he did this, whether code or not. My father was the kind of man who had hands as thick as his neck. He would grab live wires with his bare hands without a second thought and continue his work. The man had some thick fingers. Thick fingers aside, whenever he was in the cold, his left pinky finger would invariably hurt like a son of a bitch because he had cut it once on a machine working for a Canadian Tire plant making auto parts, and it cut right down to the bone, so ever since, he has never been able to handle the cold with that finger. Heck, he even had to wear two gloves on that hand, but stick a live wire in his hand and the man never felt a thing. I admired him and despised him in a great number of respects.
