[BlindHandyMan] I am back from vacation and finally got my email working again. I got back into town around the first of December and found that my computer had gone hay wire. I had to set up my email account on my back up computer which is not near as good as my main computer. I look forward to getting back in the swing of things. I have been helping some friends of mine remoddle a house that was left to John. John's Grand Father Died this summer and he left the house to him. I have done a lot of work over there just as a favor since I am not working at this time. I was not asking for a thing but he decided that he would compensate me since as he put it, you have done more than a friend should be expected to do. Well to make a short story long. He knew that I wanted a tool box because I asked him to put abug in my Wife's ear that I wanted that for Christmas. I am very excited because he did not just get me a top section like I was wanting but He went and got me a full set. We are talking about a tool chest that stands about 6 feet tall and is about 30 inches wide or so. the top has 2 rows of 3 drawrs and 3 full drawrs below that. The middle section has 3 full width drawrs and the bottom has 1 shalow drawr and 4 deep drawrs that I can put things like my battery charger cordless drill and my air impact and other larger tools. Now if I only had heat in my garage. I have most all the basic hand tools that Ineed for the most part but Now I need to go shopping for more stuff to fill this thing up.
Wat are any ones thoughts on pond shops for tools? I want good tools but I am cheep. Again Glad to be back. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Tom Fowle Sent: Tuesday, December 12, 2006 3:28 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [BlindHandyMan] soaldering Carl, Read the soldering series and learn to do landmarking so you can get the iron where you want it. A little melted insulation usually won't hurt much if all you're doing is soldering wires together and to tracks etc. tape works wonders. I strongly support the idea of a smallish pencil iron they're cheap and do the job, but anything takes some practice and a few minor burnt fingers along the way. Resistance soldering gear is very expensive and isn't as easy as you'd think. We've had varriable success with it, and especially where you're probably having lots of different sized stuff to work on, I don't think a resistance soldering system would make you happy in the end. Guns are simpler to start with but your hand will move as you squeeze the trigger and the tip will jump from where you so carefully put it, then you gotta start all over again. so learn to handle a hot pencil iron and do landmarking and do it the best way from the start. After a while you'll get where it's as easy to use as a screw driver. I didn't believe it either when I started working with Bill Gerrey here over 24 years ago, but it works.
