Pegboard can work and I have often used it but it isn't too durable. What I liked about my notched stick is that I was able to just slide the work sideways feeling along the stick with the spinning bit, when it slipped into a notch I just settled it into place then cranked the bit through the work. Very quick and essentially no wear on the jig so far. No need to fiddle to get the bit into the center of the hole in the pegboard and all that.
