Hi Scott,

I see that Rae has located sources for several various measures. I too was
looking about the Web and didn't do any better, 12 inch measures aren't
worth much to a wood worker.

I used to use 24 inch folding wooden braille rulers or 36 inch ones which
are harder to keep in a pocket but went to metric wooden folding rulers
because they are that bit longer. I used to be able to get them from the
RNIB when I lived in England and from the CNIB here in Canada but haven't
bought one recently so don't know if they are still available. Meter sticks
have the advantage that a centimeter is a little smaller than a half inch so
a little more refined measurement however imperial is much more standard
here so there is sometimes a little conversion needed.

When working with existing spaces though I often don't really know what
measure something is, I use a good locking tape measure which assures a very
accurate fit what ever the actual measurement turns out to be.

Now I more or less use the roto ruler exclusively. Rather pricey but very
accurate and very durable. I can't tell you how many wooden rulers I have
broken over the years and they are not cheap.
