Very good point, but seeing the resale value of a bass isn't so great, if I make it look nice, I could probably sell it without much loss of current resale. There's plenty of folks who like the fretless stuff. Personally I'm more than willing to put in the time to learn to play one. I have two fretted basses at this point so shouldn't be to bad and hey like I said, can always sell it off which is exactly what the initial plan was for that one in any event.
