Larry Unfortunately as this is not my car and people do not describe
symptoms all that clearly and I don't have enough experience to really
intarigate I mean question them, I don't have a lot of information to work
with. I can tell you that the car does not over heat and as far as I know it
does not give her any trouble after the car is up to operating temp.
So looks like this one may need to go to the shop. How did you say that? Not
sure I can fix this one with a 6 pack and a monkey wrench?

Robert,
does the engine warm up normally?
If the Thermostat is working correctly and the engine still
thinks it is cold you may be chasing a mas air flow sensor
or engine temp sensor ghost. Nothing you want to tackle with
a six-pack and a V O M

My friend has a 1991 Plymouth acclaim with a 2.5 and when
she starts it up from cold it will some times rev up on its
own and she has to kick it down. With out hooking it up to a
OBD or some thing is there any thing I could try to do or
look for to try to solve this? I was thinking there may be a
vacuum leak some where, I checked out the vacuum lines that
I could find and they seem to be ok. I also shot the
linckage with some WD 40 and shot some carb cleaner down
the throat of the throttle body. Any thing else I can try
for her before she takes it to the shop. I think a car
crusher would be the proper tool in this case but it is not
my car so that is not my call. Really though it has been a
good car for her all in all. Ists just that it has over
170,000 miles on it and for that particular car that is
really getting up there. Yes I know some one on this list no
doubt is going to come back and tell me about a Plymouth
acclaim with over 250,000 miles on it but that would in my
opinion be the acception rather than the rule.
