I'm pretty sure you all are talking about front load washers. We just got one a few weeks ago. The water is pulled through the cloths, which is how it works with less water. The cycle times are usually a little longer though. There is also special detergent for these kind of washers. You need to be careful that the cloths are totally in the washer, and beyond the gasket in the door, as the gasket is expensive to replace. Another thing you might have to consider is the size of the washer, since they tend to be a little larger than the normal top loaders. I think mine is a 3.1 capacity washer, and is a Whirlpool. Bosch make some nice units, but they are mostly all much larger. Mine holds a little more than my old top loader, but it about the same size. The difference is that the front loaders don't have an agitator, so you can put more in it. The spin cycles can be pretty fast, so the cloths do come out dryer, so the dryer time is cut down some. This one seems to be more gentle on the cloths, even with the higher spin speed. They are harder to get the cloths out of, which is why they sell the drawer units/stands to put under them. I didn't' buy those, so I have a bench to sit on right in front of them, which makes it easy to use.
