Well, you could take a 9 volt battery and a little beeper or other 
electronic sound device. One pole of the battery you connect to one end of 
the element wire, the other pole to the beeper. The other wire from the 
beeper connects to the other end of the element. Electricity should run 
through the element coil, through the beeper and back to the beeper causing 
it to: Well, you guessed it! it should beep if the heating coil is in tact. 
The circuit is showing continuity. If the element is burned then the circuit 
will not be continuous and the beeper won't beep.

Do be sure you have the dryer disconnected before poking about in there 
though, the element is 220 V and probably 20 amps. We don't want Fried Bryce 
<GRIN>
