Thanks, We do get a few below zero days here. . The suggestion of changing the fixture is definitely out of the question. It is a hanging light and the porch roof is about 13" high. I need a 6" ladder just to reach the bulb. Also about 25 years ago this fixture was $75. I made the mistake of telling Karen to pick out the one that she likes. There were no prices on the display lights just the reff number for the order book. I wish that I had a socket on a short cord. I think I would place it in the freezer for a few days to see if it would turn on. That would be interesting, the freezer is about -5.
