yes, Not too long ago David Marks on woodworks sliced several 1/16" pieces of walnut to glue together and then glue and press on a plywood substraight. NO, ripping would make a perpendicular cut to the surface of the board where as resawing makes a parallel cut. If you rip an 8 inch board in half you have two 4 inch boards.
