Hi,

4 batteries at 1.5 volts each is 6 volts assuming they are connected in series. 
They probably are. You want to be sure the DC power supply you connect is 
correctly polarized. That is, that the positive line is in the same orientation 
as the battery positive line, the + sign on the battery tip end. Most equipment 
won't operate the wrong way around and the battery arrangement is such that it 
is difficult to do anyway but some will be damaged if the polarity is reversed.
