With some email delivery problems I did not receive everything on this thread. First there are two types of dado cuts a complete through and a blind dado. The blind dado is used so that the edge of the dado is not seen. This is mostly used for a fixed shelf where both edges, the side and the shelf, are seen. A through dado is a groove that goes completely through the board from back to front. This is the type I wanted to make. I set the height adjustment so it was 3/8" above the saw bed. Because of the design of the saw to make a complete cut the circumference of the blade just goes far enough to make the cut. When the blade is slightly raised, in this case 3/8", it is also pulled front. This causes the blade not to completely cut through the stock. Lenny http://www.geocities.com/lenny_mchugh/

Thus, the back of the dado isn't full depth and makes a blind dado at that end. That's why he had to put a spacer block behind the piece he was dadoing. -- Blue skies.
