Larry, Better to only have a six inch threaded rod so you don't have to spin the nut more than six inches. then you can just couple that six inch piece with longer sections that can be threaded but don't need to be.
The longer sections can be fixed lengths like six inches, one foot, and 18 inches. Trying to spin a nut 18 inches can take a while. Lest you think I am a design genious, I am not.
