Welcome to the world of plumbing Dan. What you find sometimes can really
be a mess. Trying to replace one item after numerous plumbers made small
repairs to do a specific job can be a nightmare at best. "enjoy, enjoy"
When I started my pex replacement work I got the crimp tool for eighty
bucks so my fitting costs are less than fifty cents each. The push on fittings
work well for stopping points to go back to copper. I run the pex right to my
fixtures and crimp on the fitting needed. A ten buck pipe cutter cuts the
tubing in seconds and gives access to another fitting where you want it.
