The chance of the compressor motor breaking loose of it's mounting bolts
inside the case and only hitting the casing on stop can not happen. It will
hit on start usually, but not stop.
If it is banging on stop it usually means one thing. The compressor is
loosing compression and on stop the head pressure is shooting back wards into
the compressor sump. If this is the case, the compressor will start running
for very long periods of time where as before it would run only short times.
There are a couple things that can cause this: but, they all mean a lack
of compression.
