Another problem with the push action is that you could easily blow out a
line.

Hi Jerry,

I can't give you a brand name however I have had best luck with the sort of
rubber plunger which includes a sort of cuff which can be rolled inside the
main cup or extended to form a sort of bell beyond the main cup. With it
extended it tends to make a much better seal in a toilet because it gets
right down there inside the bowl.

As someone already mentioned, you will usually have better luck on the
withdrawal cycle of the plunging action, actually the pull-push action gets
the column of water punching up and down. If the clog is leaking slightly so
that the water isn't forming a complete column then try pouring water down
until there is a complete column. Alternately compressing and relaxing a
column of air isn't nearly as effective.

I don't much like the idea of pumping or otherwise pressurizing a drain
line. It has a nasty habit of jetting undesirable sludge out of some
unexpected orifice like a shower stall or sink or maybe even the roof vent
stack.

Hope this is helpful.

Can you recommend a good toilet plunger or some other way to clear a
toilet that is really clogged? Does someone make a plunger that makes a
good seal with the toilet so that all the air pressure works against the
clog instead of leaking out into the toilet bowl?

Thanks.

Jerry
