Last summer it was Sue's Teddybear Cottage and this summer it's Max's Shop. Last summer it maid sense to run the electrical wiring to both places at the same time. There were odd moments in which the weather was rainy, not too many last summer though, Sue had something to do and needed to dress up, or she was too tired to work that day. In those times and sometimes at night I managed to finish the wiring of the shop. I also installed ceiling joist. Believe it or not, it came without them. The stringers come down from the peak of the roof to the top wall plate. There is a truss member across between opposite stringers to keep them from collapsing. I want to insulate and panel the interior so it was necessary to install the missing joist. Then my job started up again and the weather turned cold and working in an uninsulated shop at night was no fun. Now in the spring my on-again-off-again job gave me some time off and the weather warmed up about the same time. The walls are constructed with 2 by 4 studs on 24 inch centers and every other stud is doubled. The Teddybear Cottage is built the same way and last summer we couldn't find insulation that was wide enough for 24 inch centers and thin enough for 2 by 4 construction. Instead we had to buy R19 insulation which is for 2 by 6 studs. We jammed it in the smaller thickness. The 2 by 4 on 24 inch centers style of construction must be catching on because this spring we have found R13 insulation which is 22 inches wide but for 2 by 4 stud spaces. We have now finished the walls. The building is 30 by 12 feet and the ceiling is 92 inches high, nominally 8 feet. As your homework assignment, figure out the total area. Since last summer we bought a pneumatic staple gun along with a compressor of course. Here's a tip. If the staples are tearing out of the paper, put Gorilla tape along the edge. Staples won't tare through that.
