Always get one that is rated for more than your own weight. I carry a lot of
stuff up the ladder and already weigh more than a lot of ladders recommend. My
extension is rated for 300 pounds and I go about 230. But a bundle of shingles
puts me near the limit.

You can buy the kit to keep the ladder away from the gutters. A nice one goes
between 20 and 30 dollars. It is also helpful from tipping over sideways.

The big question is how much do you want to spend and do you want aluminum or
fiber glass. And remember the length in fully extended, not a safe way to
work. So get one a little taller than you are wanting to climb.

Don't be fooled into thinking fiber glass is safer if you hit a power line.
There is enough metal in them that you can still get hurt if everything goes
the wrong way. I've hit the power line with my aluminum ladder and I'm still
here. And crazy happened a long time ago. But I don't recommend everyone try
things my way either. Just a few thoughts to consider with buying a ladder.

  Subject: [BlindHandyMan] buying extension ladder

  >Hi list,

I want to get a ladder to help me with getting on top of my house. Don't ask!
I might want an extension latter. Don't know what is the safest option.

I know if I get an extension latter I want one which has stand-offs
so I don't crush my gutters. I was doing research on line and am now
confused. Some makes and models have bad reviews. Can you all direct
me to a good safe way of getting up to clean gutters and attach an antenna?

  I am open to sugestions.

  Thanks.
