Tell the new Governor of New York to polish up his best white cane and
head to the Theatre at 45 Bleecker Street to catch the further adventures
of Mark and Teddy, two blind buddies who will take center stage in
CRUISING TO CROATIA, a family friendly, feel-good musical comedy debuting
at the 11th Annual New York International Fringe Festival in August 2008.
CRUISING TO CROATIA, written and produced by Peter Mikochik, is about a
couple of goofy blind guys who pose as musicians on a cruise ship while
in search of Teddy's new love, a seductive internet voice. A stern woman
captain clashes with Mark, the lovely Dr. Lena tries to help love-struck
Teddy, and a Texas billionaire, also in pursuit of the sexy voice from
Croatia, mixes it up with the boys.
The characters, Mark and Teddy, are part of a series of comic shorts by
Mikochik, that have the duo in sticky situations such as trying to get
driver's licenses and rummaging
through washing machines in what they thought was an empty laundromat.
What makes CRUISING TO CROATIA unusual is that Mikochik is blind and the
shows director, Pamela Sabaugh is vision impaired. They also are using a
cast of blind, vision impaired and sighted actors in the production. Just
to make things more unconventional, the sighted actors are playing the
blind characters and the blind actors are playing the sighted roles.
Pamela Sabaugh is a veteran of the New York International Fringe Festival.
She received a performance award in 2000 for her play WOMAN AND THE ANIMAL
KINGDOM.
This is the first live stage production by On Island Communications, a
Shelter Island, NY based audio production company. A variety of
songwriters have contributed original songs to CRUISING TO CROATIA,
including Mikochik, Margaret Kestler and Penny Kerr - all of Shelter
Island, and George Ashiotis, Tom DeRosa and Adam Linn, of Manhattan.
