The toilet and tub drain fine, and there is no gurgling.

When you flush the toilet does the sink gurgle? Maybe the bath tub or the
shower?

  How well do they drain?

  Yes,

The sink did drain well; the problem has been getting worse, over the past
few weeks.

  Claudia,

Did the sink ever drain well?

If water from a hose under pressure went through all right then I doubt there
is a blockage in the drain, more likely an inadequate vent.

  Okay,

So, my bathroom sink hasn't been draining properly, for quite some time now.
When we brush our teeth, wash our hands, etc., the water goes down very,
  very slowly!
So, I finally caught my dad on his day off today, and he came to see if he
could fix it for us! He did a few things. First, he took off the elbow
underneath the sink, but he couldn't really see any blockages. Then, he ran
a hose from downstairs to the sink, creating water pressure. When he did
this, the water was going down fine.
However, the pipe that leads from the sink and turns downward to the floor
and into the basement is very short; there is no room to put something in
there, to try to unstop the drain.
  So, he was unsuccessful.
  I
don't know if I'm explaining this correctly, but our drain issue has still
not been resolved, and now since the valves have been loosened, the pipes
  underneath the sink are leaking.

What kind of thing could I use to get in there and see what's causing the
blockage? My dad says that we may need to cut away a portion of wall
underneath the sink, near the pipe, to get at the issue.

I hate this, especially I have no man to help me out with this stuff this
  summer!
