If you have a can of good old Zippo lighter fluid, which is basically nothing 
more than naphtha, that will do a great job.  Neither one will harm the finish 
unless you smoke...

  Well, that sort of worked. It rendered it no longer sticky but there is 
still a visible residue on the surface. That is progress.
