I suspect that even if these  systems did work to repel rodents etc. that
other animals, say dogs, might experience discomfort as well.

there is no such thing as a "force field" and I seriously doubt any such
gizmo
could place a very large high frequency magnetic or electric field around
the wiring
of the entire house.

It's just possible I suppose tha radio freuency energy at some particular 
frequency might disturb rodents, but I suspect if it worked everybody would
be using it. 

If they offer a no conditions no questions money back guarantee over longer
than a month, then maybe it'd be worth a try, if you can really find a way 
to be sure it worked. 

QVC's reputation is, well not great. 

I'd invest in some boxes of bait and put them where other pets can't get at
them.

That will work, although you may have some smells for a while.
