I was just down looking at my drill press. I think that if I remove the cast iron table and make a foundation for the new table my problem will be solved. I think I can take a piece of plywood about 6x12 to place over the hole where the regular table mounts. Then drop two bolts down and through a piece of oak on the bottom. Now to keep it from moving secure two pieces of wood near the back to straddle the support arm and run a bolt through to tighten. Then I can set the new table on top and use some silicone and a few screws to secure the table. That way there should be no movement of the table and I would also gain a few inches of clearance. Then if for any reason I actually need the old table it will be quickly be able to be reinstalled.
