Aloha Jen, I have a large quilt on my wall and didn't want to put any holes in it. I used some small curtain rod hooks on the wall. Then I sewed a pocket on the top edge of the back of the quilt that was the length of the quilt and just big enough to slide a wooden rod through it. In hawaii, we generally use wooden rods so that we don't have to worry about rust over the long-run.
I have seen people put a second pocket on the back of the bottom edge that they don't attach to the wall, but do put another rod in it to hold it down.
