Max,

Believe it or not, according to the guy who built the studio, and I won't
go into it, but this is the kind of guy who doesn't just read the quick
start guide to building a studio, he actually investigated the physics
behind the claims he read, mass-air-mass is the best sound dampener.
Putting another layer in there, mass-air-mass-air-mass doesn't help that
much, and under some conditions can make it worse.

also, completely sealing the room is essential. He said that an
experiment was done where these guys had built an extremely sound proof
room, if you want to call it that. They fired a gun blank in the room and
you couldn't hear it on the outside of the room. They then drilled a one
eighth inch hole through one of the walls, and you could hear people
inside the room talking.

I am just going to do what seems reasonable without doing double back
flips with a half twist through a hoop to quote reduce quote the sound as
much as is reasonable.
