Dale,

I don't have the XT model, but can give you my impressions of the DAISY /
Document / Media players.

The DAISY player seems to work flawlessly with NLS books, at least in my
experience. I have not tried a non NLS book. Sometimes, the user interface
feels a bit clunky, however. For example, when you finish reading a book, you
have to "close" it before you can delete it from the SD card. When the book is
open, the delete key serves a different function.

The only complaint I have with the document reader is that if you are reading
text with hard line breaks in it, the synth pauses briefly at each HRT, making
the output a bit choppy. This does not happen in Word documents and the like
which don't have hard returns at the end of each line.

As far as the media player goes, it works well, but the user interface is,
again, a bit clunky. As with the DAISY player, you have to select a song from
the list and open it, which starts it playing. When it finishes, you have to
close it to return to the list. It would be nice if this interface worked more
like a ZinStone or MUVO T100. E.G., when one song finishes, the next one in
the list automatically starts unless you intervene. Maybe you can make it do
this, but I don't know how.

I don't mean to sound negative. Over-all I love the player. Before I bought
it, I went on line and read the entire owner's manuals for both the Victor
Reader Stream and Book Sense and decided on the Book sense. I'm not in any way
disappointed in that decision. I do think, however, that the Victor's firmware
is a little more advanced and has added some very nice features in the past few
months, namely being able to transfer a book from an NLS cartridge or memory
stick to the SD card. Don't know if it can transfer multible books, yet, but
if not, I'm sure it's in the works. I have written GW Micro an Email regarding
some of these issues and they have been very responsive. Hopefully a firmware
upgrade is forthcoming with a few of these enhancements and bug fixes. Gotta
keep up with the Jones's (or Humanware's) you know.

Subject: [BlindHandyMan] Anyone use the BookSense XT?

Good afternoon,

I am in the market for a solid state reader & MP3 book player. The BookSense XT
appears interesting to me. I am interested to hear from people using one, how
you like it.

Is the FM radio any good? I am in a fringe reception area, any sense of the
sensitivity of the receiver?

Thanks for any opinions.

Dale Leavens.
