the content of simple CML documents can probably be translated/moved to
JSON fairly easily. There are a few XML constructs which probably no-one
uses such as <!ENTITY...> or processing instructions and could be
obsoleted. The ability to interact with other XML languages (MathML, SVG)
is more serious. Can JSON hold arbitrary content (like XML can have CDATA
and so can hold JSON). Also JSON does not have comments.
I don't have a handle on who is using CML and for what. I imagine it will
be strong in the document-processing market
