Hi guys,

I have actually seen this happen on a specific poster/cloud provider.

What that provider does is actually overwrite the settings from the hypervisor
side.

That is very interesting. I wonder if you know what hypervisor is in use there, and perhaps it also applies to Brian's situation.

Every time I reboot such a machine, I need to login to the console to restart
the network script to properly set the default gateway.

Yikes. I cannot imagine inflicting that type of pain on a user. In my opinion, any system that a provider issues a customer should "just work" and should not require that type of manual intervention. If our BlueOnyx VPS or dedicated hardware customers were unable to reliably reboot without having to resort to manually repairing the network configuration each time, I can only imagine the unhappy customers we would be dealing with.

If the hypervisor can be narrowed down and is found to be the same on both Taco and Brian's case, then perhaps it will be possible to disable whatever process is taking place to overwrite the network configuration on the VPS. Or an alternate hypervisor may be used that does not include that behavior.
