I use the latest AIR SDK (1.5.1) which includes some bug fixes... I think the 1.5.1 runtime is not available yet for Linux (I'd have to check). I'm afraid the only solution for linuxians is either to update the application.xml (like you did) or wait for the 1.5.1 runtime (if not released yet)...
