Did some further testing.

Seems Chrome has its own issues: zooming in and out on different
percentages shows problems on the line where 24 span-1's are used.
Safari, also based on Webkit, has the same abnormality as Chrome.

IE8 (also compatibility view) seems to have comparable abnormalities
as Firefox

And believe it or not. IE6 behaves perfectly. No abnormalities
there... Let's all go back to IE6 ;)
