You can use Blueprint without using the grid for layout design... you can even re-compress the files to leave grid.css out... it just depends how closely the design matches to the grid's measurements. Remember that if it does fit the grid approach but not the exact measurements, you also have the option of setting your own grid measurements using any of the tools that accompany Blueprint.
