Recent OpenID specs (I can not tell the older ones) include two kinds of authentication, either the traditional "bouncing" you describe, or a client/server communication without involving any other user interaction. We should study it. Perhaps it could solve the issue of login from the Boinc Manager. On a different topic, I really would like to have a flash or javascript BOINC manager.
