Could you rebuild the client software in debug mode?

 

That'll actually display the file and line number information with the
assert.

Changing the Embed Manifest for boincsvcctrl to "No". Helps Builds
successfully.
(right click on boincsvcctrl -> properties -> configuration properties
-> manifest tools -> embed manifest)

Now the BOINC client is succesfully built.
running the boinc.exe produces the following error at command prompt:

I am trying to compile the latest BOINC version in windows Vista using
VS2008.
It gives a build error:
