This is not Linux specific. It has been a problem also for the Windows versions for a long, long time. In fact 6.12.26 seems to be perhaps a bit better in this regard than previous releases. In Windows the problem is less pronounced if boinctray.exe is removed from startup in the registry. Unfortunately it reinstalls the registry key at every new release. I've pointed out the problem more than once but so far no solution.
