Hi BOINC! I've been reading about your platform and the amazing projects you enable like LHC@Home, Seti, and Einstein@Home, and it sounds like an amazing opportunity to harness the computing power of your average user to increase our understanding of how the world works. Running simulations of beam dynamics, protein folding, or particle collisions sounds pretty cool, but I'm always wary of downloading a plugin or creating an account, so I've never personally participated. That being said, I want to help compute the future of physics, biology, and neuroscience too!
BOINC sounds pretty cool and I wanted to let you know about a new piece of technology called Portable Native Client (PNaCl) that could make it usable in the browser without forcing the user to download any annoying or buggy plugins. I think you guys are working on something amazing to make the world a better place, but it could reach even more people if they didn't have to install anything. Just a thought, but maybe this catches your fancy! PNaCl lets C and C++ code run efficiently (but safely!) inside a tab in Chrome, meaning you don't have to rewrite all your code in Javascript to put your application online. PNaCl enables you to take advantage of the performance of native apps, while gaining the portability of the web. Check out our Common Use Cases for more info about how it could work with your application and feel free to reach out to me with questions, concerns, or feedback. Thanks so much for your time! ~Molly Molly Mackinlay | APM 2013 | [email protected] | 425-233-4943 _______________________________________________ boinc_dev mailing list [email protected] http://lists.ssl.berkeley.edu/mailman/listinfo/boinc_dev To unsubscribe, visit the above URL and (near bottom of page) enter your email address.
