For Windows only. It's been a long time since the use of GPUs was disabled when running BOINC as a service, but people keep getting caught out - most recently in http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=76849
Either, people upgrading earlier versions of BOINC don't notice the inherited selection in the installer, or (as this time) people install new hardware in a computer already running BOINC. Could the mode line in the event log be enhanced to read something like Running as a daemon (GPUs not available) Running as a daemon (GPU computing disabled) under Windows, please? The phrase "No usable GPUs found" does occur a few lines later in the log, but there's nothing to associate the one as the cause of the other. The restriction is mentioned in the installer and in http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/GPU_computing, but both of those are likely to be far distant in time and space in the user's mind when they discover the problem. _______________________________________________ boinc_dev mailing list [email protected] http://lists.ssl.berkeley.edu/mailman/listinfo/boinc_dev To unsubscribe, visit the above URL and (near bottom of page) enter your email address.
