Catania coach follows Lippi lead 16-Jul-2006

Serie A new-boys Catania have set their sights on survival for the coming
season, and coach Pasquale Marino says he has learnt some important lessons
from Italy's World Cup victory.

Marino is preparing for his first ever Serie A campaign after leading
Catania back to the top flight after an absence of 23 years.

Much is expected of the newcomers thanks to the style with which they
obtained Serie B promotion last season, but Marino is set on achieving
salvation by any means possible.

However the Catania coach also says he learnt a lot from Marcelo Lippi's
refreshing approach with the Azzurri, particularly in the electric
semi-final win over hosts Germany.

*"I want to win also with seven defenders,"* said Marino. *"[But] the World
Cup matches have been an important professional update. "I've studied a lot
of Italy and I want to underline that in the win against Germany our coach
has been sensational in managing the match and the replacements." *

However Marino is unlikely to follow Lippi's lead in exact detail, as the
adventurous coach is currently mulling over whether to use a 3-4-3 or 4-3-3
formation in the top flight next season.
