Liverpool signed Birmingham City winger Jermaine Pennant on Wednesday, the
Premier League club said.
The 23-year-old signed a four-year contract after passing a medical and was
due to join his new team mates on their pre-season tour of Switzerland, they
said on the official Liverpool website. Liverpool did not disclose the fee
although media reports put it at more than 6.5 million pounds ($11.96
million).
Birmingham rejected an initial offer from Liverpool for the former Arsenal
player earlier this week.
Pennant joined Birmingham a year ago having spent six months on loan at the
St Andrews club, who were relegated from the Premier League last season.
He is Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez's fifth signing of the off-season
following the arrivals of Wales striker Craig Bellamy, Chile forward Mark
Gonzalez, Brazilian Fabio Aurelio and Argentine defender Gabriel Paletta.
