At the end of the game that marked Milan's qualification into the Champions
League group stage at the expense of Red Star, the fans from Belgrade cast
aside their disillusionment and stood to applaud the Rossoneri. It is unusual
to receive such a warm response on the road, but the Serbian fans proved to be
exceptions to the rule just like Dragan Stojkovic's club, a team with great
players both now and in the past. While unkind words and thoughts could be
heard throughout Italy and Europe, the home side played the ideal hosts as
Stojkovic extended his hand to Milan chief executive Adriano Galliani at the
end of the game, offering an example for all to see of ideal behavior and in
the end both he and Red Star Belgrade deserve a round of applause.
