GILARDINO UPDATE
1/22/2007 2:55:00 PM
All the fans want to know how Gila is doing after last night's challenge and
everyone will be happy to know that the Rossoneri champion is just fine
MILANELLO Alberto Gilardino worked in the pool today. Milan's medical
staff have excluded any possibility of a bone lesion. They will, however,
need another 24 hours to evaluate the situation with the ankle that was hit.
On the positive side, Gila's ankle doesn't look swollen today and he is in
good humour. Gila left Milanello in the early afternoon along with his
team-mates, after they all ate lunch together.
EYES ON THE PRIZE
1/22/2007 2:48:00 PM
There is no time to rest with the Italian Cup semi-finals right around the
corner and important league match on Sunday, but Cristian Brocchi isn't
worried as he has his eyes on the prize
This morning Cristian Brocchi spoke about the goalless draw with Lazio on
Milan Channel: 'It was kind of a strange game. We were able to create a lot
of scoring opportunities but Lazio did well closing up in defence and we
were unable to find the right space.' However, there is something positive
to take from the draw according to Cristian: 'A month or month and a half
ago, we would have probably lost a game like that. Now, we are still a bit
tired due to all the preparation we underwent but we will benefit from this
further down the line, at the crucial moment, and that's a good thing.'
As for whether or not Milan held back for fear of finishing six points
behind Lazio, Brocchi pointed out: 'Milan weren't worried about finishing
six points down from Lazio, that's just not the way we think.' Cristian is
more or less a fundamental fixture in the Rossoneri midfield and anyone can
easily see that he is a team player: 'I took hit on my side from Goran
Pandev. I experienced some pain when running, but there's no problem because
the pain has passed. Now, we have the Italian Cup semi-final and then right
away on Sunday we have an important league game. However, we will try to
make it to the finals and prepare as well as we can.'
Brocchi ended the interview by expressing concern for his team-mate Alberto
Gilardino, who had a bad challenge with Valon Behrami in the game against
Lazio: 'Considering the hit he took, he was actually lucky because he really
could have broken his leg. Now, I think that he is doing ok. I think that
the situation is better than what they thought at first.'
GOOD WORK AMBRO
1/22/2007 1:08:00 PM
It was an optional training session at Milanello and Massimo Ambrosini took
the opportunity to undertake an impressive series of repeats with varying
pace and distance
MILANELLO Milan were back to work this morning after Sunday night's draw
at the Olympic stadium. The team arrived at Malpensa airport at 2am CET and
returned to Milanello to train this morning at 11am CET.
Not all of the players were present since this was an optional session and
amongst those not there were injured players Zeljko Kalac, Alessandro Nesta
and Serginho.
Yoann Gourcuff, Ricardo Oliveira, Willy Aubameyang, Marco Borriello, Leandro
Grimi, Nelson Dida and Marco Storari started the session with a half an hour
of warm-ups and a game of keep-ball. This initial phase was followed by a
series of shots on goal.
The other players worked primarily in the gym. Kakà was included in this
group as was Giuseppe Favalli, who is still recovering from the injury he
incurred against Arezzo. Massimo Ambrosini worked apart in the gym and then
put on a good show running a series of 300 and 400 metre repeats with
varying pace and distance.
