Bahkan Manchester City menyiapkan 65 juta poundsterling (Rp 973,8 miliar) untuk menggaet Ribery dari Bayern Munchen. Manchester CIty saat ini memegang rekor transfer di Inggris saat memboyong Robinho dari Real Madrid. Manchester City menggelontorkan dana sebesar 32,5 poundsterling (Rp 486,9 miliar) untuk mendapatkan Robinho. Rekor tersebut bisa pecah jika Manchester City berhasil meminang Ribery. Jika sukses, itu sekaligus membuat Manchester City mengeluarkan 315 juta poundsterling (Rp 4,7 triliun) selama 20 bulan. Bayern Munchen sendiri saat ini dikabarkan berniat mempertahankan Ribery. Namun, Ribery sempat mengkritik pelatih Bayern Munchen Louis van Gaal.
