I'm away from the computer now--away in Ohio for the weekend--so I can't check this specifically.
But I do recall that the translate markup rule is established in the pre section, before the vars. I suppose it could be moved down to be done after the vars. I see merit in it, and no problems... Perhaps for the next release. Generally an array element is defined for each markup order/rule in the markup table. They are processed by order first and then rule, in the order they are defined. So All the pre's are done first, in the order they are defined. Then all the vars, etc. So when you add a new fmt rule for example, it will be processed after all the default fmt rules, but before the next order, whatever that is. There's a helpful recipe called markup table that you might want to look at.
